What Is Massaman Curry?

I love the Massaman curry! It really tastes so good! It’s native to India, it’s sweet (don’t worry, it’s not hot in here!), And the chicken and veggies make for a very satisfying dish! The sauce for this recipe is made from scratch and is so simple and easy! But don’t let that fool you about taste. This dish is sure to impress all your family and friends because it looks and tastes fresh from the restaurant. And if you like this recipe then you should try this Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala too!

Massaman curry is different from red, yellow, and green curries. You can tell it apart because it is a curry that has peanuts in it! In this recipe, I used mild peanut butter, which I added to the sauce, which makes it so creamy! This recipe is delicious and easy and you should add it to your weekly menu! It only takes about 25 minutes to assemble, making it ideal for those on the go and busy at night. In fact, make some homemade naan out of this and it will take it to the next level!

Ingredients For Masaman Curry

Aside from the massaman curry paste, you probably already have most of the ingredients in your kitchen! See the Recipe Card below for a list of exact ingredient sizes.

  • Olive oil: you can use veggies if that’s all you have on hand.
  • Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts: I sliced very thin when sliced.
  • Onion: Cut into small pieces to mix well.
  • Potatoes: I love using Yukon Gold Potatoes for their flavor! For this recipe, you will peel and dice them.
  • Carrot: These boiled carrots really add to the filling in the recipe!
  • Coconut milk: When buying coconut milk, make sure the jars are greasy.
  • Massaman curry paste: Look for it in the aisle of the international store. Usually alongside Asian products.
  • Garlic: Any recipe that contains garlic will make me ask for more!
  • Ginger Paste – Ginger paste has a better texture and flavor than ginger spice.
  • Fish Sauce: Just a little bit of that will give this Massaman curry its unique flavor!
  • Lime juice: You can use bottled lime juice or fresh lime. Whatever the easiest option!
  • Peanut Butter: This is what makes the sauce so creamy and delicious!
