We’ve smoked turkey for the last two Thanksgiving days in a row, and I don’t think we’ll ever go back! Smoking makes the juiciest and most amazing turkey I have ever tasted. Odorless dried turkey is now a thing of the past! This recipe has proven to be reliable for me. My turkeys came out moist and tasty the entire time. To give it the flavor of the interior, I start with a simple brine for the turkey, to give the meat a flavor of citrus and herbs. Then I generously coat the turkey with my favorite blend of garlic, pepper, and Italian aromatic herbs .… I love stuffing the turkey with additional lemons, onions, and herbs for flavor and tenderness. Then let’s move on to the smoker! You will love how easy it is to prepare.

  • Turkey PicklePickle is a simple mix with seawater, but I love adding herbs and citrus fruits for more flavor! It also helps smooth the skin. While this step is optional, I highly recommend taking the time for a more flavorful turkey!
  • Whole turkey – be sure to remove the giblets and neck.
  • Paprika: I love adding pepper to my grated turkey for a mild flavor! It has an incredible taste, unlike the aroma of smoke.
  • Garlic Powder – You can’t go wrong with garlic! Added for the perfect salty flavor.
  • Italian Seasoning – This is my blend of herbs like rosemary, thyme, marjoram, and basil. It enhances any dish it is added to!
  • Onion Powder: I love the punch of flavor that onion powder brings to turkey.
  • Salt and pepper – used to enhance the overall flavor of the smoked turkey.
  • Apple: I add apple quarters to the inside of the turkey to hydrate it and give it a slightly sweet flavor.
  • Onions: Like apples, I stuff the turkey with onion quarters for the inner flavor.
  • LemonLemon slices are added to the inside of the turkey to give it a flavorful flavor.

How To Make The Perfect Smoked Turkey

In just 5 easy steps, you can make an amazing smoked turkey! Trust me, this turkey will be the star of the show – how tender, tender and juicy it is! It is always a favorite among my friends and family.

  1. (Optional) Pickle and Pat Dry: Let’s smoke! First, remove the turkey from the brine and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Preheat smoker, mix seasonings – then heat smoker to 225 degrees. In a small bowl, combine the pepper, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Generously rub all over the turkey.
  3. Material: Fill the cavity of the turkey with apple, onion, lemon, and rosemary.
  4. Smoking: Then place the turkey in the smoker and smoke for 30 minutes per pound. Place the meat thermometer on your thigh without touching the bone, or about an inch at the thickest part of your chest. Smoke until your core temperature drops to 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Rest: Once the turkey has reached the desired core temperature, remove it from the smokehouse and rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.

I also like to add herbs and citrus fruits to add flavor. It takes 1-3 days to see the best results, so keep that in mind so it doesn’t turn up until Thanksgiving!
  • Keep the grill closed – I know it’s tempting to open the grill to see how things are going, but I recommend keeping it closed as long as possible to maintain your desired smoking temperature.
  • Check the indoor temperature – The last thing you want to do this Thanksgiving makes your guests sick. It is very important to ensure that the internal temperature of the smoked turkey reaches at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • In the refrigerator: Remove the stuffing (s) and wrap the turkey in plastic wrap. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • In the freezer: You can store the remains of a smoked turkey in the freezer bag for up to 4 months. Thaw in the refrigerator for 24 hours before serving/reheating.
  • Reheating: I like to reheat the leftover turkey in the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees before serving.
